About the Author

Wendy Lowe Besmann is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared Better Homes & Gardens, The New York Times Magazine, USA Today, Esquire, Atlantic, SELF, and Outside. She has also authored the narrative history A Separate Circle:  Jewish Life Knoxville, Tennessee  (University of Tennessee Press) and the special needs family advocacy guide, Team Up for Your Child (Melton Hill Media).

Wendy’s first work of fiction,Through the Gate of Dreams, evokes a rich landscape of 17th-century life, from a city torn by England’s Civil War to the “Joodenquartier” of rich and raucous Amsterdam, a flourishing center of Jewish life whose inhabitants are immortalized in some of Rembrandt’s most famous paintings.

A longtime student of both English and Jewish history, Besmann lives with her husband and son in Knoxville, Tennessee.
